China’s steel exports up 10 percent in Jan-May

In May this year, Chinese steel exports totaled 5.23 million mt, up 560,000 mt compared to April and constituting the country's highest monthly steel export volume since July 2010, as reported by the Chinese customs authorities. China's steel exports in May were up 9.87 percent year on year.

During the first five months, Chinese steel exports came to 22.04 million mt, an increase of 10.1 percent year on year. The customs data also shows that in May this year China's steel imports stood at 1.32 million mt, up 190,000 mt from the previous month and increasing by 3.1 percent year on year.
