In January, China's finished steel exports totaled 2.8794 million mt, up 1.08 million mt or 52.37 percent year on year, totaling a value of $2.221 billion, down $114 million or 4.88 percent compared with the same month last year. Meanwhile, finished steel imports reached 1.3476 million mt, up 486,400 mt or 56.48 percent year on year, amounting to a total value of $1.507 billion, up $246 million or 19.49 percent compared to the same month last year.
In January, the country's net exports of finished steel amounted to 1.54 million mt. The average export price in January was $542.1/mt, down $258.39/mt or 32.28 percent year on year. The average import price was $1,118.17/mt, down $346.09/mt or 23.64 percent year on year. The export price was $576.07/mt or 51.51 percent lower than the import price.
