China’s finished steel imports down 12.8 percent in August

In August this year, China imported 1.02 million mt of finished steel, down 12.8 percent year on year, while the finished steel import volume in the January-August period of the current year totaled 8.72 million mt, down 9.6 percent year on year, as previously announced by Chinese customs.
 
In August this year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow sections amounted to 80,000 mt, 20,000 mt, 880,000 mt, and 30,000 mt, down 19.7 percent, 25.6 percent, 11.1 percent, and 29.6 percent, respectively, year on year. In the January- August period of current year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow sections amounted to 710,000 mt, 260,000 mt, 7.36 million mt, and 250,000 mt, decreasing by 12.5 percent, 8.3 percent, 8.6 percent and 23.3 percent, respectively, year on year.
