China’s finished steel imports down 10.3 percent in January-May

In May this year, China imported 1.05 million mt of finished steel, down 13.4 percent year on year, while the finished steel import volume in the January-May period of the current year totaled 5.49 million mt, down 10.3 percent year on year, as previously announced by Chinese customs.

In May this year, China's import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow profiles amounted to 90,000 mt, 30,000 mt, 880,000 million mt, and 30,000 mt, decreasing by 11.7 percent, 13.1 percent, 13.1 percent, and 28.1 percent, respectively, year on year. In the first five months of current year, China's import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow profiles amounted to 450,000 mt, 180,000 mt, 4.61 million mt, and 160,000 mt, down 9.6 percent, 5.3 percent, 9.9 percent and 23.4 percent, respectively, year on year.
