China’s Xinyu’s new blast furnace

China's Xinyu Iron and Steel Company has commissioned a new blast furnace at its plant in the Jiangxi province on May 2, 2003 at a cost of Yuan 350 million (approx.$42.3 million). The blast furnace has an annual production capacity of 882'000 tons of pig iron. Xinyu has seven blast furnaces with a total volume of 1'800 m3. The company expects to increase the production of pig iron to 2.4 million tons and crude steel to 3.5 million tons in 2004.
