China's steel demand to peak in 2015

In the recent forum of China's National Reform and Development Commission, the Chinese Academy of Engineering made calculations on what the country's total consumption of steel and iron would be when the government's industrial medium and long-term policies are applied. The calculations predict that China's demand for steel may reach 350 million tons by 2015. According to the calculations, China's total steel demand will reach 300 million tons in 2005, while it will increase to 340 million tons by 2010 and 350 million tons by 2015. The calculations foresee that China's steel demand would start falling then, to 320 million tons by 2020.
