In June this year, China’s import volumes of steel bars and angles/channels amounted to 100,000 mt and 30,000 mt, up 3.2 percent and 19.9 percent, respectively, year on year, while import volumes of steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow profiles amounted to 940,000 mt, and 40,000 mt, down 2.4 percent and 24.5 percent, respectively, year on year, according to the monthly import and export data issued by the Chinese customs authorities.
In the January-June period of the current year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow profiles amounted to 630,000 mt, 210,000 mt, 5.66 million mt, and 190,000 mt, up 9.0 percent, 31.1 percent, 4.0 percent and 6.1 percent, respectively, year on year.
As previously reported by SteelOrbis, in June this year China imported 1.13 million mt of finished steel, up 1.8 percent month on month and decreasing by 0.88 percent year on year. In the January-June period, China’s imports of finished steel totaled 6.46 million mt, rising by 5.3 percent year on year.
