China’s steel bar imports up five percent in January-August

In August this year, China’s import volumes of steel bars and steel plate amounted to 90,000 mt and 810,000 mt, down 4.5 percent and 13.6 percent, respectively, year on year, while its import volumes of angles/channels and steel pipes and hollow profiles totaled 30,000 mt and 40,000 mt, up 11.0 percent and 2.8 percent year on year, according to the monthly import and export data issued by the Chinese customs authorities.

In the January-August period of the current year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, and steel pipes and hollow profiles amounted to 820,000 mt, 260,000 mt and 270,000 mt, up 5.0 percent, 24.6 percent and 7.8 percent, respectively, year on year, while China’s steel plate imports amounted to 7.28 million mt, down 0.7 percent year on year.

As previously reported by SteelOrbis, in August this year China imported 0.99 million mt of finished steel, down 11.3 percent year on year. In the January-August period, China’s finished steel imports totaled 8.77 million mt, rising by 0.8 percent year on year.
