China’s steel bar exports down 61 percent in January-August

In August this year, China’s export volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate and wire rod amounted to 1.13 million mt, 240,000 mt, 4.01 million mt and 180,000 mt, respectively declining by 61.6 percent, 38.8 percent, 7.3 percent and 11.9 percent year on year, according to the Chinese customs authorities.

In the January-August period this year, China’s export volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate and wire rod totaled 12.10 million mt, 2.54 million mt, 31.14 million mt, and 1.43 million mt, decreasing by 61.0 percent, 27.5 percent, 3.4 percent and 8.2 percent, respectively, year on year.

In August this year, China exported 6.52 million mt of finished steel, down 6.3 percent month on month and decreasing by 27.2 percent year on year, while the finished steel export volume in the first eight months of the year totaled 54.47 million mt, down 28.5 percent year on year, as previously announced by the Chinese customs authorities.
