China’s steel bar exports down 55.2 percent in January-May

In May this year, China’s export volumes of steel bars, angles/channels and wire rod amounted to 1.53 million mt, 320,000 mt and 200,000 mt, respectively declining by 61.1 percent, 29.0 percent and 1.7 percent year on year, while China’s steel plate exports amounted to 3.91 million mt, rising by 2.3 percent year on year, according to the Chinese customs authorities. In the January-May period this year, China’s export volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, wire rod and steel plate amounted to 8.46 million mt, 1.73 million mt, 840,000 mt, and 18.76 million mt, decreasing by 55.2 percent, 17.0 percent, 8.7 percent and 3.4 percent, respectively, year on year.

In May this year, China exported 6.98 million mt of finished steel, up 7.55 percent month on month and decreasing by 25.9 percent year on year, while the finished steel export volume in the January-May period of the current year totaled 34.19 million mt, down 25.7 percent year on year, as previously announced by Chinese customs.
