In the January-March period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 15.67 million dead weight tons (dwt), rising by 87.7 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 5.54 million dwt, decreasing by 25.4 percent year on year. As of the end of March, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 88.65 million dwt, down 26.3 percent year on year and decreasing by 11 percent compared to the end of 2016.
In the January-March period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 14.9 million dead weight tons (dwt), up 93 percent year on year and accounting for 95.1 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 4.59 million dwt, decreasing by 34.1 percent year on year and constituting 82.8 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of March, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 81.74 million dwt, down 27.2 percent year on year and constituting 92.2 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
