In the January-August period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 31.32 million dead weight tons (dwt), up 41.4 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 15.85 million dwt, decreasing by 11.3 percent year on year. As of the end of August, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 81.11 million dwt, down 29.0 percent year on year and decreasing by 18.6 percent compared to the end of 2016.
In the January-August period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 29.47 million dead weight tons (dwt), up 45.4 percent year on year and accounting for 94.1 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 14.47 million dwt, decreasing by 1.7 percent year on year and constituting 91.3 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of August, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 75.35 million dwt, down 29.5 percent year on year and constituting 92.9 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
