China’s shipbuilding output up 20.4 percent in January-April

In the first four months of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 12.47 million deadweight tons (dwt), up 20.4 percent year on year, according to the figures released by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) on May 21.

In the given period, China's new ship orders amounted to 6.63 million dwt, down 78.1 percent year on year. As of the end of April, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 139.96 million dwt, down 6.8 percent year on year and decreasing by 6.3 percent compared to the end of 2014.

In the first four months, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 11.27 million dwt, up 18.8 percent year on year and accounting for 90.4 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China's new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 5.66 million dwt, down 80.5 percent year on year and constituting 85.4 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of April, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 133.94 million dwt, down 4.9 percent year on year and constituting 95.7 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
