In the January-June period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 20.6 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 36 percent year on year, according to the figures released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Of the total, seagoing vessels accounted for 6.68 million dwt.
In the given period, China's new ship orders amounted to 22.9 million dwt, up 113.2 percent year on year and including 8.92 million dwt of seagoing vessels.
As of the end of June, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 108.98 million dwt, down 13.4 percent year on year but up 1.9 percent compared to the end of 2012, while seagoing vessel orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 38.1 million dwt as of the end of June. As of the date in question, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises constituted of 87.3 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
In the first half, China's aggregate shipbuilding output and new ship orders respectively accounted for 35.3 percent and 46.1 percent of the global market share, while ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilders at the end of June accounted for 44.3 percent of total ship orders worldwide.
