In the January-August period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 22.08 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 18.1 percent year on year, according to figures released by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI).
In the given period, China's new ship orders amounted to 47.40 million dwt, up 35.8 percent year on year. As of the end of August, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 153.70 million dwt, up 34.1 percent year on year and indicating an increase of 17.3 percent compared to the end of 2013.
In the January-August period, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 19.07 million dwt, down 7.3 percent year on year and accounting for 86.4 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China's new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 44.65 million dwt, up 50 percent year on year and constituting 94.2 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of August, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 146.16 million dwt, up 57.2 percent year on year and constituting 95.1 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
