According to the data issued by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry(CANSI), in the January-October period of the current year China’s completed shipbuilding output amounted to 46.67 million deadweight tons (dwt), down 15.5 percent, while new shipbuilding orders received during the period totaled 16.42 million dwt, down 44.8 percent, both compared with the same period last year. At the end of October, total ship orders on the books of the Chinese shipbuilding industry amounted to 116.63 million dwt, down 29.5 percent year on year and down 22.2 percent compared with the end of last year.
In the January-October period, the 1,636 large and medium-sized shipbuilding companies which are members of CANSI recorded a total industrial output value of RMB 651.5 billion ($104.4 billion), up 2.7 percent year on year. In addition, the companies’ export value for the period was RMB 224.4 billion ($36 billion), down 11.7 percent year on year. In the January-September period of the current year, the aggregate net profit of the companies in question amounted to RMB 21.6 billion ($3.5 billion), down by 34.8 percent on year-on-year basis.
