German plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that Chinese steelmaker Hebei Puyang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd (Puyang Steel) has ordered a medium slab caster from China-based SMS Siemag Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd, to be installed at the steel plant in Wuan City, Hebei Province.
The single-strand caster will be able to produce slabs of 150-180 mm in thickness and 1,000-2,300 mm in width with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million mt. With this new slab caster, Puyang Steel will expand its product mix mainly to include pipe grades, pressure vessel grades, high-strength shipbuilding plates and high-quality carbon steel slabs.
