China’s NISCO orders new heavy plate mill

German plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that it has received an order from Chinese steel group Nanjing Iron & Steel Co. (NISCO) to build a new 4.7 meter heavy plate mill.
 
With the heavy plate mill to be built in Nanjing and expected to start operation in 2013, NISCO aims to reach an annual production of 1.6 million mt. SMS Siemag stated that the product range covers all steel grades currently demanded by the market such as tube and pipe steel, ship plates and other high-strength steel grades.
