China's crude steel production growth rate hits 7-year low in November

Since the end of April, the Chinese government has made efforts to eliminate dated steel capacities through various means, finally yielding satisfying results in November. China's crude steel production growth rate in November registered a sharp drop compared with previous months; the November increase rate of 4.3 percent marks the first time in recent years that the figure has dropped below 10 percent, and is also a record low for the past seven years.

China's crude steel production in November totaled 39.6913 million mt, up 1.6364 million mt or 4.3 percent year on year. The average daily crude steel production in November reached 1.323 million mt, down 61,600 mt/day month on month. Meanwhile, crude steel production for the January-November period amounted to 447.8318 million mt, up 64.0856 million or 16.7 percent year on year.

China's pig iron production in November totaled 39.9045 million mt, up 3.7591 million mt or 10.4 percent year on year. At the same time, total pig iron production in January-November reached 427.4378 million mt, up 58.0015 million mt or 15.7 percent.

China's finished steel production in November totaled 47.6757 million mt, up 5.3725 million mt or 12.7 percent year on year. On the other hand, national finished steel production for the January-November period reached 514.7946 million mt, up 94.5541 million mt or 22.5 percent.

China's coke output for November totaled 28.7771 million mt, up 3.1291 million mt or 12.2 percent year on year. Meanwhile, national coke output for the January-November period reached 298.4356 million mt, up 44.6638 million mt or 17.6 percent year on year.

China's ferroalloy output totaled 1.5533 million mt in November, up 133,500 mt or 9.4 percent year on year. For the January-November period, on the other hand, national ferroalloy production reached 15.6908 million mt, up 2.9754 million mt or 23.4 percent year on year.

In November, China's iron ore output totaled 64.14 million mt, up 3.34 million mt or 5.5 percent compared with the same period last year. January-November iron ore output reached 633.45 million mt, up 105.58 million mt or 20 percent year on year.

China's crude steel exports in the month of November totaled 4.49 million mt, accounting for 11.3 percent of total crude steel production for the month. This figure was up by 0.5 of a percentage point compared with the previous month. From January to November, China's steel exports totaled 67.21 million mt of crude steel, accounting for 15 percent of China's total crude steel production during this period.
