China’s CPI rises by 4.5 percent in January

According to the latest data issued by China's National Bureau of Statistics, in January this year China's consumer price index (CPI) rose by 4.5 percent year on year. This growth rate indicates an acceleration compared to year-on-year growth of 4.1 percent in December last year. In particular, the CPI for urban areas in China increased by 4.5 percent during the given month, while the index for rural areas climbed up by 4.6 percent, both compared to the same month of 2011.

Meanwhile, in January this year China's domestic purchasing price index (PPI) was up 0.7 percent year on year, but down 0.1 percent month on month.
 
In particular, the PPI of the industrial sector in China indicated a year-on-year increase of two percent and a month-on-month decline of 0.3 percent.
