China to cut coal consumption to less than 4.2 billion mt by 2020

China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has stated that China will limit its total annual consumption of coal to less than 4.2 billion mt by 2020. In particular, China will reduce coal consumption in areas and cities facing serious smog problems. By 2020, a 15 percent reduction in total national energy consumption per unit of GDP is expected to be achieved as compared to 2015.
