China posts zero semi-finished steel exports for January

According to the data released by the Chinese customs authorities, China's finished steel export volume for January came to 1.91 million mt, down 1.26 million mt or 39.7 percent from the previous month and down 2.22 million mt or 53.8 percent year on year.

In January, China imported 870,000 mt of finished steel, down 60,000 mt or 6.5 percent over the previous month, and down 550,000 mt or 38.7 percent year on year.

As a result, China's net exports of finished steel in January amounted to 1.04 million mt, down 1.2 million mt or 53.6 percent over the previous month.

China registered zero semi-finished steel exports in January; meanwhile, the country's semis imports for the month in question stood at 130,000 mt, up 50,000 mt or 62.5 percent month on month.

China's crude steel export volume in January reached 2.01 million mt, down 1.35 million mt or 40.2 percent month on month; meanwhile, net exports of crude steel in January came to 960,000 mt, down 1.34 million mt or 58.3 percent month on month.

In addition, China's coke exports in January dropped to 80,000 mt, sharply down 140,000 mt or 63.6 percent month on month and down 92 percent year on year.

Finally, China's iron ore imports in January stood at 32.65 million mt, down 1.88 million mt or 5.4 percent over the previous month and down 11.2 percent year on year.
