Chilean mining and steelmaking group, CAP, started up a hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) plant in the city of Lima, Peru, through its Peruvian subsidiary Tupemesa.

The $10 million HDG plant has a 2,000 mt/month capacity and is said to be the first of its kind in the region.

The launching of CAP’s HDG plant is part of the group’s strategy to expand its steel, infrastructure and solar businesses internationally.

Peruvian officials, including the country’s president, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, and CAP’s president, Roberto de Andraca, attended the plant’s opening ceremony this week.

Tupemesa is a major Peruvian tubemaker operating for over 50 years in the country.

With the opening of the new HDG plant, CAP expects to expand its market share in the local insulated panels, profiles for drywall, and corrugated tubes markets.
