The massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred of the coast of the Maule Region of Chile on February 27 seriously damaged three ports and destroyed another, according to news sources.  This has created backlogs at both the Port of Valparaiso and the Port of San Antonio, both located north of the areas most damaged by the quake.

Although the Port of Valparasio and Port of San Antonio were not exempt from the quake's effects, they are, at current, operating at 90 percent capacity; compared to the 30 percent operating capacity of ports which had sustained the most damage.

Chile's president Sebastian Pinera expects reconstruction for bridges, roads, homes, and other infrastructure repair to be in excess of $20 billion.
