Chile reports increase in trade surplus

Chile's trade balance gave $1.07 billion surplus in April, an increase of 5% compared to the same period last year, said the Chile's Central Bank. Exports rose 25% year on year to $3.44 billion in April partly due to higher prices for the country's main product, copper. Imports increased 36% to $2.37 billion as domestic demand, business investment and consumer spending has been more brisk than in the first half of last year. In the first four months trade surplus reached $3.54 million, up only 1% from a year earlier.
