China Electricity Council (CEC) has announced that during the 2012-13 period the situation as regards electricity power supply in China is expected to become more severe considering the rate of growth of demand and current supply levels. The CEC stated that, in order to solve the power supply problems in China, the country should not only increase power provision but should also accelerate cross-regional power grid construction.

By the end of 2010, the transmission capacity of three power supply grids built under China's West-East Electricity Transmission Program reached 70 million kilowatts. This has played an important role in meeting the seasonal demand of different regions.

Founded with the approval of the State Council in 1988, China Electricity Council (CEC) is a consolidated organization of all China's power enterprises and institutions. China Electricity Council now operates under the supervision of China's State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
