Chilean iron ore producer CAP Mineria wasn’t affected by the severe storm that affected the country’s northern region, the company announced on Thursday.

“None of our sites were damaged,” CAP Mineria wrote in a statement, adding its operations at Valle del Elqui are “operating normally.”

As for the Valle del Huasco mine, its pellet plant as well as local ports are working regularly, CAP said, as well as the Punta Totoralillo port in Valle de Copiapo. According to CAP, the Valle del Huasco mine produces about 10 million mt of iron ore per year.

According to media reports, a number of Chilean mining companies have suspended operations following the storm at the northern region of the country.

AccuWeather defined the storm as an “extremely rare rain triggering significant flooding in one of the driest places in the world.”

This week, the Meteorological Service of Chile in coordination with the Regional Directorate ONEMI has declared a Red Alert for parts of North-Central Chile due to intense rain storms.
