Ontario-based steel pipe and tubing manufacturer Lakeside Steel Inc. announced Wednesday that it intends to issue up to 61 temporary layoffs of hourly employees at its wholly-owned subsidiary, Lakeside Steel Corporation.

According to Lakeside, the decision to increase the number of temporary layoffs to 61, or approximately 19 percent of its unionized workforce, is a direct result of the declining steel markets. The company last month reported it would issue 40 temporary layoffs of hourly employees.
