Canadian new housing prices up 0.4 percent in October

According to Statistics Canada, the New Housing Price Index (NHPI) rose 0.4 percent in October compared with the previous month. The combined region of Toronto and Oshawa contributed the most to the monthly increase.
 
Among the 21 census metropolitan areas (CMAs) surveyed, new housing prices were up in 13, down in three and unchanged in five.
 
In a year-on-year analysis, the NHPI increased 3.0 percent over the 12-month period ending in October, reflecting gains in 15 of the metropolitan areas surveyed. The combined metropolitan region of Toronto and Oshawa (+8.1 percent) was the top contributor to the gain.
