Statistics Canada reported Tuesday that building permits in the country jumped 11.9 percent to $6.3 billion in October after three consecutive monthly decreases.

A 32.8 percent increase in the value in non-residential permits drove the increase, while the value of permits in the residential sector edged down 0.1 percent, the third straight monthly decline.
