Canadian building permits rise to highest level since 2007

Statistics Canada reported Tuesday that building permits increased by 11.1 percent to $6.8 billion in December--the highest level since June 2007. 

Additionally, non-residential permits surged 41 percent in December after months of decline, while residential permits also had a positive month with a 28.9 percent increase due to major condominium and apartment building projects initiated in Ontario.
