The National Chamber of Iron and Steel Industry (CANACERO) has called for a comprehensive solution that reduces the frequency of dumping cases with the US after the US International Trade Commission (ITC) decision this week determined injury to the US industry from Turkish and Mexican rebar.
"The Mexican industry has been persistent in its rebar export volumes to the United States over the years, having a share of less than 5 percent of the American market, so it is difficult to think that such a low market share can cause injury to producers rod United States,” the statement from CANACERO said.
The statement continued: "The rebar of Mexican origin represents an addition to the supply of American rod, serving independent dealers and makers sometimes that are limited by lack of supply from American producers, which meet the needs of its subsidiaries first."
"Once the details on which the ITC based its final decision are known,” CANACERO stated, “the Mexican industry, through the Ministry of Economy, will discuss the possibility of going to the World Trade Organization (WTO) for possible violations of their obligations under the ADA."
CANACERO noted that it is necessary to work on a comprehensive solution that will facilitate trade and economic integration of both NAFTA partners and reduce the frequency of cases of dumping through mechanisms of dialogue.
"Mexico and the United States must work on common goals to grow at rates above 4 percent, and one of these objectives should be seeking new proposals for increased production integration based on increased trade and no reduction of the same," the statement concluded.
