Building permits in Turkey down 15 percent in Q1

According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the number of buildings authorized by building permits from municipalities in Turkey in the January-March period of the current year amounted to 28,711, down 15 percent from 33,776 registered during the same period of the previous year. In the first three months of 2015, the number of buildings authorized by municipality building permits totaled 25,565.
 
In the first quarter of this year, the value of the buildings in question fell by 3.6 percent year on year to TRY 46.28 billion ($13.03 billion), while the total number of apartments authorized by building permits recorded a decrease of 11.6 percent to 228,918, both year on year.
 
Meanwhile, in the three months this year the number of buildings given occupancy permits by municipalities in Turkey increased by 8.7 percent to 26,759 buildings, compared to the first three months of 2016.
