BSP produces longest rails in Asia
Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), government-owned Steel Authority of
India Ltd. (
SAIL)'s flagship unit has announced that it has manufactured 130-meter long rail lines, which it claims are the longest rail lines produced by any government or private company in Asia.
BSP's Managing Director explained that the company welded two 65-meter rails to make the long rail, which is expected to enhance railway safety by eliminating weld joints.
The company is said to have invested Rupees 4 billion ($87 million) in the rail finishing complex to supply long rails to Indian Railways.
According to market sources, BSP booked its first order for 56 of the long rails shortly after the rail finishing complex was completed in July of this year.
