BSP reports record production figures

Steel Authority of India Limited's largest unit Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) has achieved a record hot metal and crude steel production during the current fiscal year ending March 31. The production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel rose 14.8 percent, 10.3 percent and 8.9 percent year on year respectively. BSP produced 5.18 million metric tons of hot metal, 5.05 million metric tons of crude steel and 4.29 million metric tons of saleable steel. The BSP plant recorded a sales turnover of Rupees 79.49 billion ($1.78 billion) and a net profit of Rupees 21.75 billion ($487.9 million) for the first nine months of 2005-2006 period. For the first time since 1959, the plant has surpassed 5 million metric tons of production for hot metal as well as crude steel.
