Brazil's national statistics agency (IBGE) has announced that in April this year industrial production in the country increased by 0.1 percent compared to March, but was down 7.2 percent from April last year. In March, industrial output in Brazil had increased by 1.4 percent month on month.
In the January-April period of this year, industrial production in Brazil was down by 10.5 percent on year-on-year basis.
According to the announcement, in the fourth month of this year the production of intermediate goods manufacturers in Brazil increased by 1.2 percent and output of capital goods rose by 0.1 percent, output of consumer goods grew by 0.5 percent, production of durable consumer goods moved down by 0.9 percent and output of semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods decreased by 4.4 percent, all compared to the previous month.
In April of the current year, Brazil's metal products output decreased by 14.9 percent, machine and equipment output declined by 12.1 percent and output of motor vehicles and trailers moved down by 20.6 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the January-April period of this year, Brazil's metal products output decreased by 14.2 percent, machine and equipment output declined by 20.9 percent and output of motor vehicles and trailers diminished by 26.1 percent, all compared to the same period of 2015.
