Brazil's national statistics agency (IBGE) has announced that in December last year industrial production in the country increased 2.3 percent compared to November, but was down 0.1 percent from December 2015. In November, industrial output in Brazil increased by 0.2 percent month on month.
In 2016, industrial production in Brazil was down by 6.6 percent on year-on-year basis.
According to the announcement, in the last month of last year the production of intermediate goods manufacturers in Brazil increased by 1.4 percent and output of capital goods fell by 3.2 percent, output of consumer goods grew by 1.8 percent, production of durable consumer goods moved up by 6.5 percent and output of semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods rose by 4.1 percent, all compared to the previous month.
In December 2016, Brazil's machine and equipment output rose by 12.6 percent and output of motor vehicles and trailers moved up by 19.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In 2016, Brazil's metal products output decreased by 9.8 percent, machine and equipment output declined by 11.8 percent and output of motor vehicles and trailers diminished by 11.4 percent, all compared to 2015.
