Brazil's industrial output down 13.8 percent in January

Brazil's national statistics agency (IBGE) has reported that in January this year industrial production in the country increased by 0.4 percent compared to December 2015, but was down 13.8 percent from January last year. In December, industrial output in Brazil had decreased by 0.7 percent month on month.
 
According to the report, in the first month of this year the production of intermediate goods manufacturers in Brazil increased by 0.8 percent and output of capital goods rose by 1.3 percent, output of consumer goods declined by 0.9 percent, production of durable consumer goods moved down by 2.4 percent and output of semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods increased by 0.3 percent, all compared to the previous month.
 
In January of the current year, Brazil's metal products output decreased by 16.1 percent, machine and equipment output declined by 25.5 percent and output of motor vehicles and trailers moved down by 27.4 percent, all on year-on-year basis. As compared to December, Brazil's metal products output increased by 2.7 percent and machine and equipment output increased by 3.1 percent and output of motor vehicles and trailers decreased by one percent.
