Brazil’s CSN forced to buy slab to supply clients following blast furnace idle

Brazilian steelmaker Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) was “forced” to buy slab in order to supply its clients, according to a media report citing a letter sent by the local steelmaker to its clients.

Despite having restarted a blast furnace, CSN has suffered “serious physical and monetary damages,” the letter said.

Since a CSN’s blast furnace was idled, the company needed to buy slab to supply its clients.

“Existing orders already produced and ready to load won’t experience any delays. However, all orders are subject to a final review, given these unfortunate and uncommon circumstances,” said the company’s commercial director, Luis Fernando Martinez.

ThyssenKrupp’s Companhia Siderurgica do Atlantico (CSA) or TKCSA previously supplied slab to Brazilian flats producer Usiminas and could potentially supply CSN in the domestic market.
