Brazil’s crude steel output up 13.3 percent in January

According to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr), Brazilian crude steel production in January this year amounted to 2.83 million metric tons, with a 13.3 percent increase year on year. In the same month, Brazilian rolled steel output increased by 10 percent to 1.77 million metric tons compared to the same month of 2016. 
  
Brazilian domestic steel sales increased by 0.2 percent year on year in January to 1.23 million metric tons.
 
Brazil's exports of steel products in January amounted to 1.26 million metric tons, rising by 29.5 percent, with a value of $563 million, up 51.3 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
 
Meanwhile, the country's steel import volume in January amounted to 209,000 metric tons, increasing 99 percent, with a value of $173 million, up 40.7 percent, both year on year.
