Brazil's national statistics agency (IBGE) has announced that in January this year industrial production in the country decreased 0.1 percent compared to December, but was up 1.4 percent from January last year.
According to the announcement, in the first month of this year the production of intermediate goods manufacturers in Brazil increased by 0.7 percent and output of capital goods fell by 4.1 percent, output of consumer goods grew by 0.3 percent, production of durable consumer goods moved down by 7.3 percent and output of semi-durable and non-durable consumer goods grew by 3.1 percent, all compared to the previous month.
In January this year, Brazil's metal products output decreased by 6.2 percent, machine and equipment output declined by 4.9 percent, output of motor vehicles and trailers moved up by 5.2 percent and basic metals output rose 4.2 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
