Brazilian steel producers focus on their mining businesses

Brazil's largest flat steel producer Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (CSN) has announced that in the second quarter of the current year its net income amounted to to Rial 4.32 billion ($2.65 billion), with 34 percent from its mining division and 57 percent from its steel division, compared to 32 percent and 60 percent respectively in the first quarter of this year.

Meanwhile, in the second quarter another Brazilian domestic steel manufacturer Usiminas also increased the share of the income gained from its mining division to 8.8 percent of total net income of Rial 3.02 billion ($1.85 billion), as compared to 6.9 percent in the first quarter.
 
Market analysts state that the Brazilian steel producers have become more concentrated on their minerals business as raw material costs play a more important role in their financial results.
