Brazil’s Ministerio Public Federal (MPF), a body of public prosecutors, has filed an injunction to annul the licensing of the phase 3 of Anglo American’s MinasRio iron ore project in Brazil.

According to the MPF, it has also requested the suspension of the operating licenses of phase 1 and 2 of the Minas-Rio project, which were granted by Minas Gerais state environment authority Semad. It also asked for the annulment of a license granted by Brazilian environment authority Ibama for a Minas-Rio iron ore slurry pipeline.

MPF said there are “many questions” about Minas-Rio’s environmental impact assessment (EIA) and environmental impact report (EIR).

MPF also said there are questions about the compliance of the proper conditions by Anglo to obtain licensing for its phase 1 and 2 projects that were not addressed by authorities.
