Brazilian production of autos decreased 2.3 percent year-on-year in February to 200,111 units, according to data released by the nation’s automotive industry association, Anfavea.

“We had less working days in February due to Carnival celebrations in Brazil, considering the holiday was held last year in March,” said Luiz Moan, Anfavea’s president, adding that the forecasted “difficult scenario” for the first quarter of the year is being confirmed.

Contrary to the negative prospects for the nation’s automotive industry in the first quarter of the year, Brazil’s auto exports in February surged by 91.8 percent to 31,266 units compared to the 16,302 units sold overseas in January.

February exports were also higher than the 28,626 units exported in the same month of 2014.
