The Brazilian government has opened the country’s national copper and related minerals reserve, Renca, to mining exploration, according to a government resolution published last week. The former reserve reportedly includes iron ore and manganese, among other minerals.

According to a media reports, as a result of the reserve’s reclassification, the government is evaluating 58 requests to explore minerals in the Amazon region that were made before the reserve was created in 1984. The government also expects to receive new requests to explore minerals in the area.
