BHP Billiton has expanded its team in Brazil, as it expects to resume operations at its JV-owned pellets producer Samarco, following the Mariana disaster late last year.

Vale and BHP announced earlier this year that Samarco could restart operations as early as Q4. So far, BHP has expanded its team to support Samarco, according to a Brazilian media report.

BHP’s expanded team is said to support Samarco, as the pellets producer faced billion-dollar fines and environment losses. Two executives were added to the team to help Samarco resume operations, according to a media report.

Additionally, offices were opened in the city of Belo Horizonte, which is 116km (72 miles) away from Mariana city, also in the state of Minas Gerais.
