BHP Billiton approves funding for outer harbor facility at Port Hedland

Australian miner BHP Billiton has announced that it has approved US$917 million in funding for the construction of a 100 million mt per year outer harbor facility at Port Hedland. BHP Billiton's share would be $779 million in the funding.
 
The approved funding will enable BHP Billiton to speed up the feasibility studies and allow dredging to begin.
 
BHP Billiton recently stated that it has received conditional approval from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) of Western Australia, while the expansion project is still subject to federal government approval.
