German pipe company Berg Steel Pipe Corp. has chosen Mobile, Alabama as the site for a new $75 million facility which will fabricate large diameter pipe used in oil and gas exploration. The plant will be built on 86 acres at the former International Paper site in north Mobile, currently owned by the Alabama State Port Authority. Dave Delie, Berg's president and CEO, told the press that the company expects to close on the land by late April and to break ground in May or June. Operations are expected to begin some time next year, according to a statement released by the Alabama State Port Authority on Friday. Berg Steel Pipe Corp. is a division of Europipe, based in Mulheim, Germany. Berg Pipe already has two US locations - a pipe manufacturing plant in Panama City, Florida, and a US sales office in Houston, Texas.
