Inner Mongolia-based Chinese steel producer Baotou Steel has lately commenced the construction of a 159 mm seamless steel pipe production line.

The project in question, which forms part of Baotou Steel's production structure adjustment program, will cost RMB 1.98 billion ($290 million), with an annual designed output of 400,000 mt. The new line will produce seamless pipes in 38-168 mm diameters and with maximum thickness of 25 mm. Hot tests are scheduled to be carried out in July 2011. Pipes produced will be suitable for application in petroleum pipelines, power station boiler pipes, petrochemical industry pipes and line pipes.
