Baotou Steel produces 100 meter steel rails

SteelOrbis Shanghai On May 25, Baotou Steel Group commenced trial operation at 100 meter steel rail production line. This is the second line in the country for this type of product, following Panzhihua Steel's line. In November 2003, Baotou Steel signed contract with German SMS for this production line. The construction began in January 2004. The line rolled out first 75 meter steel rail in December 2005. On April 11 2006, it rolled out the first 100 meter steel rail, weighing 60 kg/meter. The line can manufacture railway rails with 43-75 kg/meter, crane rails with 70-120 kg/meter, medium H-beam, I-beam, channel steel, Z steel, and square steel etc. At present, Baotou Steel is making efforts to contact with Ministry of Railways on actualization of the trial laying of the 100 meter steel rails. The line is expected to be put into actual operation in the end of June or in the beginning of July.
